Devils Inc November Updates

So for those of you paying attention, here’s an updated look at my wrestling stuff, this is pretty much about 80% of my heavy arsenal of moves. So of the big high impact ones I use, and yes the guy I speared is OK! I also finally made my debut with UK Wrestling at our Hallowed Ground Event, a whole night of cage matches and even picked up a title along the way. Also took a fall off the cage but thats another story.

So mostly I’ve been focused on Final Fantasy XIV, with the expansion rapidly approaching I wanted to try and wrap a few things up. So as you can see, I have pushed MCH to level 50, making just 3 below 50 now. Only taken 6 or 7 years to get to that point alas here we are. I’ve picked up a couple more achievements in game and finished up with Relic and Bozjan, trust me I am glad to see the back of that place, though may end up farming crystals for the mount at some point.

The primary focus this week will be on getting a few more episodes of this done, and ready to go. Hopefully I can wrap up Season 1 and get to the end of the 2.0 scenario quests.

Game Development Updates

So I have been working on my old How Long Tech Demo converting it from Unity 4 to Unity 5 and was surprised by the visual difference. I mean consider the fact Unity 4 was restricted and all the good stuff locked behind the Pro wall.

How Long 11But this was supposed to be a technical demo of what we were aiming for with the original game, a zombie survival game with a more old school approach to its play style.

I wanted a game where by every decision could potentially have a disastrous result if you made the choice at the wrong time. For example we wanted to keep the game active while using the inventory, or auto save would be few and far between only used during critical events. Using a gun would always have bad results. Something to continually challenge the player at every turn.

So having hit a bit of a burnout playing Final Fantasy XIV and games in general I wanted to do something I enjoy which as you’re all aware of is creating new worlds and stories. So  tried to import the demo into Unity 5 but didn’t quite work the way I wanted so I simply scrapped it and started again using the knowledge I have since gained just by using Unity and exploring the systems.

HowLongTech08Even at a quick glance you can see the visual differences, Unity 5 has a massive leap ahead of what Unity 4 had for us to work with. Simple things from the shadowing to the dynamic lighting.

I have also picked up a few bits with the Vampire Legends game, I’m also working on a couple of bits that will allow people to help me get that and running from a patreon campaign to donations. So for the moment that’s where I’m at updating the How Long Tech Demo and cramming the mansion full of all kinds of wonderful items and objects. I really hadn’t picked up on the leaps until I saw the differences in these two screens. Even particle effects like the fire look better now.

Game Development – Updates April 2015

So it’s been a busy month or so development wise, mostly for Devils Inc Studios as we wrapped up on our title “Star of Destiny” we just need to iron out one or two more issues and we can get it released. Which means can move along to our next project which all the ground work was done by myself and you guys might remember the 2D scrolling shooter that was Task Force Alpha, this has been significantly revamped into a brand new title. A early demo is available on the Devils Inc Website. What this version is vs what we are planning is actually quite a step away from the demo. I will update you guys in due course but you can of course follow Devils Inc Studios on Twitter or Facebook.

Screen 47So that brings back me to my personal projects, I recently began updating The Vampire Legends game with the improvements Unity 5 now allows for. The improvements to the water system alone as stunning and sexy.

Reflections better lighting, a few of the systems need revamping and I’m having issues with the custom built camera system, the character controller also need some work as the input is still a little unpredictable but not sure if that’s the way Unity 5 handles animation now vs the old legacy system. But all in it isn’t looking too bad. I have also a new model to use for the main character and this will be installed once I fix the camera system. I may also add a changing room style thing to allow for a little customisation but for the most part I’m still working out the final details with this one, beginning to think the main level is just too big and may restart the whole design of the world again.

Space11Confined is under way and I have the game play figured out I just need to implement a few things like the GUI and gun shot mechanics so we shall see on that as well.

So all in all still coming along as we stand but for the moment it is what it is.

Star of Destiny

So we broken Kongregate, well not literally but apparently it has a 20mb upload limit and we are well beyond that now, as we add more features and bigger better core game process to Star of Destiny.

So the game as you can see under went massive changes and we have further ones planned, but it’s time to think bigger than Kongregate, not like it was getting traffic anyways. You guys helped in that so thank you!

Snow 18

But we will be heading over to Steam and it has an official Greenlight Page right here! So a yes vote from you guys would be greatly appreciated!

And a vote IndieDB as well?
Star of Destiny
And yes this is a game I was the heart of, I helped design the concept and refine the story, every decision I have made in regards to this game has made me much more confident as a designer, and helped me grow as a leader.

So what is Star of Destiny? Well it’s the repackaged version of Snowmageddon! With a little more heart under the hood.  A new XP system, a new incoming GUI, lots of performance tweaks. Follow the official Twitter and the blog for more iformation.

The Vampire Legends Game : Update v0.1.5

As I finished writing this I had uploaded a massive series of updates to The Vampire Legends Game, this update brings an array of quick fixes that have been causing performance issues with the game. It also brings with it a new area, you can finally begin to explore the humble area of Dentarius, ever wondered what Elvera Castle looks like? Wonder no more.

Unfortunately it also creates a massive strain on my server and so I have had to opt to a new system whereby you need the games stand alone to play, it’s fine though simply download the game from the original link and install. The game will play just fine and has been checked with AVAST Anti Virus before it was uploaded to our servers.

We are now also working on a patching solution to keep you updated with the very latest version of the game at all times.

While still in the very early stages and I haven’t begun to implement an actual story or NPC system yet. Still it does allow you to begin to explore and look around the legacy that I have spent almost 15 years establishing.

I will also begin to include the legacy of the family and the characters that we built over several years back in the MSN Chat days. If you are reading this and want your character included you can reach me through the page.

It took years to begin planning and finally learn enough to begin building this into something much better than a simple image and badly designed web series.

This will eventually become the ultimate tour of Elcarus, Dentarius and the entire Vampire Legend saga.

The Vampire Legends : The Game

So as you know I’ve been toying with turning The Vampire Legends, it’s universe and most of my role-play career into a full standing product, recently I began work on an RPG style game using the world I established over 15 years ago. For the moment the progress and the game itself will be available on-line free on my personal website.

Screen 1

It isn’t much to look at right now as the level layout is going to be quite complex and unique, I’m going to concentrate things in one area of Elcarus Mansion, I will also begin overhauling the mansion and realm web pages in the future to keep everything stand alone in the end.

The game play itself I’m not sure of as well as what the story will entail as I’m still working through a few of the finer details, the plan is to use this much as I did the base version of Task Force Alpha, as a learning curve.

You can follow the games progress from the pages above and of course if your fortunate enough to remember the original world in which the game was set then you can get in touch through this page to help with its progress and inside news.

The nailed in details right now are that it is set in the basement of Elcarus Mansion, Aerian is the main character and she is searching for something in the basement, as for what she is searching for and how she will eventually find those items the finer details are still a work in progress. Hopefully the game will feature small levels of combat as well as a few magical effects.

Development will be slow but I plan to make this game as packed with lore as is possible. An interactive tour of the Elcarus Family if nothing else. Also this site is proving much more popular than I ever imagined so to each person who reads these posts I am truly grateful for you taking time to visit one guys view of the gaming world.
